Means of transportation has a lot to do with the economy of the country and also with the advancement of the world. It is therefore agreed that success and advancement of many countries is based on the means of transportation. Means of transportation include water ways, land and air ways. Water ways including ships, boats, submarines and many more are considered to be the cheapest and are also known for carrying heavy items. On the other hand, land ways like buses, trucks, motor cars and railways have established their importance too. For covering shorter distances it is better to use land ways but railways used for longer distances too. Airways have by far been the best means of communication because they provide you with the best services and they are also the quickest means. Airlines in case of airways are used for providing the air transport services. This is for the passengers who travel for fun and on business and it also caters to all the freight that is to be carried from one place to another. Airlines change from those that are with a single airplane that usually carry cargo or mail through full service international airlines controlling great range of airplanes. The very first airline of the world was DELAG which was a German airship and was founded in 1909 with the assistance of government. The five oldest non dirigibles that are still there include the KLM (Netherlands), Avianca (Columbia), Qantas (Australia), Mexicana (Mexico) and Czech Airlines (Czech Republic). The development in United States started to show progress but the passenger service was still sporadic in the early 1920s. The first successful American airliner was the Ford Trimotor, the construction of which started when the Ford Motor company bought and took control of the Stout Aircraft Company. The Trimotor made the passenger service very lucrative mainly because it had a capacity of having twelve passengers which means that it was a 12-seater. Later, Juan Trippe, through his airline, Pan American World Airways, began a crusade to create an air network to connect America to the rest of the world and accomplished his goal. The US airline industry was gaining a lot because of the introduction of Douglas DC-3 and Boeing 247 in the 1930s even during the Great Depression till the start of World War II. In Europe, the first countries to realize the importance of airlines were the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom. KLM was founded under its very original name and is still operating. France began an air mail service in 1919 to Morocco which was later bought out and renamed Aeropostale but later it went bankrupt, got merged with many other airlines and became Air France. In Finland there was a charter that established named Aero O/Y called Finnair which is one of the oldest airlines of the world that are still operating. Lufthansa in Germany started in 1926 and became one of the main investors in the airlines outside Europe. In Latin America the first countries to have regular airlines were Chile with LAN Chile now called LAN Airlines, Brazil with Varig, Columbia with Avianca and some more. From Asia Philippines was the first to found Philippine Airlines followed by India that founded Air India and so on. The International Civil Aviation Organization looks out for the worldwide standards for safety and also some very important matters. It is known by all that the reason why airlines assign huge amounts of prices is because the airlines look forward to profitability. |
