Specifically Useful Airline Codes

The acronym for IATA is International Air Transport Association which is popular among the airline companies for assigning each airline of the world a two digit code. This is actually known as the airline code and it designated the registration of the airline company with International Air Transport Association or IATA. It is also used for the purpose of recognition which means that it is used as a personal code of recognition among thousands of other airlines. We all refer this code as IATA airline designator or sometime IATA reservation code. There are apparently three important types of code namely unique codes, numeric or alpha codes and controlled duplicate codes. The controlled duplicate code means the codes that are allocated previously to the specific airlines by IATA in the past and are probably no more in anybody’s use.

When ever an airline company gets detached from the registration of IATA and from IATA itself then the airline from that very moment is disallowed from using that code ever again for any purpose what so ever. This code is not is use for almost six year altogether and then later it can surely be allotted to any of the other airline company by IATA and this is termed as controlled duplicate. This act has a reason behind which is that the allotting of the controlled duplicate codes to international airline companies may create similarity with some other airlines and it may also cause many other problems of an airline identity.

There are many ways and many places in which the code by IATA can be used. The IATA assigned code is most commonly used in booking numbers, airway bills, and memo numbers in official correspondence or meeting, tariff bills and in many other ways. There is a limit put on almost all the airline companies to use the IATA code under the IATA resolution 762. The authorities of IATA also give the airline companies some real specific numbers which are then used as the prefixes to the numbers of the tickets or ticket numbers of the airlines. There are also some of these included among the airline codes in this entire world. That is why the airline codes are very specific identity marks of the airline companies.

The ICAO or International Civil Aviation Organization is yet another internationally recognized body which aids by assigning codes of designators to the airline companies of this wide world. These codes have usually three alphabets and the airline companies use these codes with their operation of flight and also as an official insignia of registration with ICAO. The International Civil Aviation Organization codes never match with the already established acronyms like SOS and many other to avoid any sort of confusion.

People do feel that the airline company codes are very ambiguous because to a layman they would definitely be very strange. This is because they refer to things that the common public is usually not aware of. You may want to get on the internet and try to find many websites that can give you help regarding the airline codes. These websites of airline companies provides you with a search bar and you can write down the code about which you really want to know. The website will reply back with really good information instantly in answer to your query.
