Every business does have the facility of middlemen which enable the buyer to find out the appropriate seller and complete the transaction. In the airline business also, there is a middleman which is known as airline consolidator. Airline consolidator is the broker who buys the seats in bulk from the airlines and then sells it directly to the travelers or to the travel agents and this often results in the lower fare rate than that offered by the airlines. It should be clear in mind that this is the way in which discount airlines work such as Ryan Air in Europe and South West Airlines in the USA. In fact these discount airlines do not need to sell the tickets in bulk to the consolidator as they are able to sell every seat by themselves.

Especially in the third world countries, this consolidator policy is not allowed and their airlines fares are fixed with their published tariff rates. These rates are only restricted for the travelers who live in that country and want to travel to the other destination. Whereas the traveler from the country where there is no fixed fares can travel in cheap rate to the country where fares are fixed. According to the latest statistic, United States, UK, Germany, Thailand and Hong Kong have the most numbers of airline consolidators and the least expensive international air fares.

It is recommended that while booking a seat with airline consolidator, one should book it three months before, for example it you want a seat on 1st June than it is recommended that you should make the booking of the seat on  1st March. This three month early booking can go in favor of or against the customer. Airlines fares might fall where as customer might have paid the higher amount or some times you get the good deal when the plane is still half full and on the other hand it might be the case that you wait till the last minute and all the seats of the airplane have been sold out.

When you first make a booking to the consolidator, it is on the request only basis and it does not mean that you are confirmed about your ticket. Consolidator checks the availability before giving the confirmation. This process takes 2 to 3 working days. You are required to make the payments immediately after the confirmation and in case of changes and cancellation of tickets, hefty penalties are charged. There is small amount of surcharge by paying through credit cards but it is widely recommended to use credit cards for the payments of ticket rather than the debit card.

Some consolidators sell the tickets online to the travel agents and the customers can buy the tickets online from the travel agent with convenience. It is better to look for the travel agents who buy from the consolidators and have their own website to buy the tickets online any time. It is the most convenient way for the travelers to buy tickets as one can take a look at all ranges of tickets and decide from them to buy the ticket which suits the requirements of the customers.
