Out of the airlines mentioned above a popular one that would come to mind is the Australian Airline that came into existence in 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways. The Australian Airline reused the name of Qantas after its merger with the former Australian Airlines in 1994. Its central base was located in Cairns International Airport along with a secondary hub located in Sydney. It started offering its services early in 2001 to places in Asia and Australia. An all Economy, International Leisure Carrier was amongst the well-known services that were provided by Australian Airlines.
After Australian Airlines came into being, it focused on holiday tourism, attracting several tourists to travel between Queensland and Japan. Australian Airlines used 5 Boeing Aircrafts, which offered its services at destinations like Cairns International Airport, Darwin International Airport, Gold Coast Airport, Melbourne Airport, Perth Airport, Kingsford Smith International Airport (Australia), Hong Kong International Airport (China), Ngurah Rai Airport (Indonesia), Fukuoka Airport, Chubu Centrair International Airport, Kansai International Airport, New Chitose Airport (Japan), Kota Kinabalu International Airport (Malaysia), Singapore Changi Airport (Singapore) and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (Taiwan)
In the year 2006, “Wet Leasing Agreement” was brought into motion between the declined Australian Airline and the Qantas Airways that meant that Australian Airlines would operate flights for Qantas using its own group under the brand of Qantas. It was further decided that public use of the Australian Airlines would be taken over by another airline called Jetstar International that served as another major Airline working under Qantas Airways. Australian Airlines continued to operate under the “Wet Leasing Agreement”, and provided its services to locations in Japan. Along with services in Japan Australian Airline provided two daily flights to Narita, Tokyo and Manilla, Philippines.
Amongst its achievements Australian Airlines managed to bring over a “Skytrax” 4 star rating in the year 2005, but due to increasing fuel prices and low passenger travel, Australian Airlines was asked to shut down its services by the CEO Geoff Dixon of the parent company Qantas Airways in 2006. Upon decline of services, the crew that worked for Australian Airlines, started work under Qantas Airways. The Boeing aircrafts used by the Australian Airline were repainted to the original Qantas Color. In 2007 the name of Australian Airline came to an end and the Australian Airline ceased all its operations and became extinct. |
