The Big Sky Airlines was one of the many American regional airlines; it was founded in 1978 and carried on till 2008 when it ceased to operate. The main hub of the Big Sky Airlines was Billings Logan International Airport, Montana. The headquarters of the Big Sky Airlines was also in Billings in Montana. The Big Sky Airlines covered almost ten destinations and served as the primary commercial air carrier to several small airports in the state. The destinations Big Sky Airlines covered were namely Billings, Glasgow, Havre, Helena, Lewistown, Miles City, Missoula, Sidney and Wolf Point. During its time Big Sky Airlines began and ended services to a number of locations and cities. The parent company of the Big Sky Airlines was Big Sky Transportation – MAIR Holdings. As of January 2008, Big Sky Airlines had 10 aircrafts in its fleet. Big Sky Airlines had code share agreements with United States Airways, Alaska Airlines and the North West Airlines.
The Big Sky Airlines announced on 20th December 2007 that it would more than likely stop all operations with in 60 to 90 days. This happened mainly due to the fact that the Big Sky Airlines lost the Delta contract. More reasons that could be given for Big Sky’s closure are disappointing revenues the airline generated, the sky high fuel prices that reduced the profitability and the bad weather that delayed, postponed and canceled the scheduled flights. In late 2007 the Great Lakes Airlines was given the approval to serve most of the cities that were formerly served by the Big Sky Airlines. Big Sky's final scheduled flights arrived in Billings on the morning of March 8, 2008.
