Northwest Airlines- Largest Airlines to Be

In this demanding life, traveling has become so important that we almost can not live without using any kind of transport. Transportation is movement of people and goods from one place to another. Throughout history, the economic wealth and military power of a people or a nation have been closely tied to efficient methods of transportation. One of the efficient ways is through airplanes and there are many airlines in this business which includes Pakistan International Airline, Song airlines, Malaysia airlines, Northwest Airlines and many more. Northwest Airlines are one of the biggest airlines in United States. They are very famous for their cutting edge airline technology and establishing new routes and they make sure that the process of traveling is secure and stress free.

Col. Lewis Brittin started Northwest Airlines back in 1920s under the name of Northwest Airways which then became one of the biggest airlines in the United States. Northwest Airlines have its headquarters in Eagan, Minnesota in the United States. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Minneapolis -Saint Paul International Airport and Memphis International Airport are the three major hubs of Northwest in United States, although it also operates from some other smaller hubs located in Asia, Tokyo and Amsterdam. In terms of domestic and international airlines, northwest were the sixth largest airlines in the world as of 2006, and also domestically the sixth largest in United States. It has one of the largest domestic route networks in U.S. and it is also used as domestic cargo carrier. To become the world’s largest airline northwest also announced its merger with Delta Air lines on April 14 2008.

Although Northwest has already many routes to offer but it is always trying to come up with new and better routes which are passenger friendly and convenient. Northwest Airlines has a big fleet consisting of around approx. 336 Aircrafts which includes Airbus A319, A320, A330-200, A330-300, Boeing 747-400, 747-200,747-300,787-8 and Mc Donnell Douglas DCs. Northwest Airlines also operate a cargo service which is known as NWA cargo and is one of the largest cargo carriers among U.S.. And for this Northwest airline has dedicated 13 Boeing 747s also.

In 2008 DHL became the largest client of NWA cargo which was a big achievement for them. Northwest Airline always believed in expanding globally so when ever they got a chance they expanded and as a result they have hubs in also most every part of the world from where they operate easily and effectively, that is why you can travel almost anywhere through Northwest Airlines i.e. Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, Caribbean, Central America, Oceania [U.S. territories].

Northwest Airlines offers four types of classes in which you can travel through i.e. World Business Class, Domestic First Class, International Economy Class, Domestic Economy Class, although all are very comfortable and passenger friendly. Northwest also gives special offers and discounts to its regular customers to keep up a good friendly relationship with them, so it gives free tickets on monthly basis etc.
