A Pakistan international airline is an official airline of Pakistan. Pakistan International Airline is at 16th rank among the largest airlines in Asia. It flies to 73 destinations through out Asia, Middle East, Europe and North America and it is also carrying a huge domestic network in which it is flying to almost 24 destinations. Pakistan International Airlines have two bases out of which one is a primary base and the other is secondary base. Primary bases include Jinnah international airport that is Karachi, the Allama Iqbal international airport that is Lahore and the Islamabad international airport. Secondary bases include Peshawar international airport, Faisalabad international airport, Quetta international airport and Multan international airport. Pakistan International Airlines is not completely owned by the government of Pakistan as government of Pakistan owns 87 percent of the airlines and remaining 13 percent is owned by the other shareholders. Pakistan International Airlines currently has 18,043 employees.
Pakistan International Airlines officially started on 11th March 1955. Although an airline named Orient Airways started functioning from February 1947 and after the creation of Pakistan, this airline moved its operation to Karachi. It started with the domestic destination and its first domestic destination in Pakistan was from Karachi to Lahore to Peshawar and from Karachi to Quetta to Lahore. Due to the continuous financial losses for the Orient Airlines, the government of Pakistan proposed to merge it into a national airline. On 11 March 1955, Orient Airlines merged and becoming Pakistan International Airlines Corporation. After the merger, Pakistan International Airlines launched its first international service that was from Karachi to London Heathrow Airport through Cairo international Airport and Leonardo Da Vinci airport in Fiumicino, Italy.
On 30th March 1960 by introducing Boeing 707, Pakistan international airlines became the first Asian Airline to enter the jet age. The aircraft was leased from pan American and from the next year the services were begun to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Pakistan International Airlines was the first to fly to the peoples Republic of China as no other non communist country was able to fly there. Pakistan International Airlines also provided Pakistan forces with the logistic support during the Indo-Pakistani War in 1965.
