US Airways - A Renowned Airline
The term transportation is used for movement of goods or people from one place to another. As US Airways is one of the largest airlines of United States, it has 36,632 employees and it operates 3,512 flights daily. US Airways have a partnership with Midwest Airlines in Kansas City and also shares code with Midwest Airlines in Kansas City in order to select destinations in Kansas and Nebraska.
US Airways was founded in 1939 by Du Pont family brothers Richard C. Du Pont and Alexis Felix du Pont in Ohio. It started with the name all American Aviation Company and then in 1949 its name was changed to all American Airways and it was again renamed as Allegheny Airlines in 1952. In late 1980s US Airways have to launch Boeing 737-300 for its costumers in order to meet the increasing demand in the rapidly growing Florida market. In 1979 due to airline deregulation act Allegheny was changed into USAIR. In 1987, USAIR came up with the dramatic expansion when it purchased pacific southwest airlines and North Carolina based Piedmont Airlines. In the early 90s, USAIR expanded its services from the main four hubs to London, Paris and Frankfurt. In 1996 USAIR closed its relation ship with British Airways and also changed its airlines name to US Airways.
In the same year it introduced a low cost single class service which was named as metro jet expanding it to east and to compete with the low cost carriers, particularly with South West Airlines. As being one of the largest airlines in the United States, US Airways had to suffer a financial disaster precipitated the closure of the Airline's Metro Jets due the terrorist attack on 11th September 2001. Airlines entered into chapter 11 bankruptcy and had to receive government-guaranteed loan in order to exit bankruptcy.
Although it is one of the largest airlines of United States, it has been regarded as the worst airlines in a consumer report survey about customer satisfaction in 2007. In the same year it has been ranked out last among the 20 domestic airlines for system wide on time performance by the US department of transportation.
